REGIONAL RAIL COALITION KICKS OFF ADVOCACY EFFORTS

Northwest Illinois Blackhawk Express Launches Initiative to Bring Passenger Rail Service from Dubuque thru Rockford to Chicago and Beyond

WHAT: The Northwest Illinois Blackhawk Express rail coalition will kick-off its grassroots campaign to rally support from the region's citizens and businesses for the return of Amtrak passenger rail service from Dubuque thru Rockford to Chicago and beyond. The proposed route would also serve Galena, Freeport, and Belvidere.

Community leaders, industry associations and economic and tourism organizations from the region have partnered to create the Blackhawk Express. The coalition will announce its plans to involve and educate citizens and businesses in the campaign for passenger rail.

Representatives from partner organizations and communities included along the proposed route will be in attendance at the news conference. State, regional and local elected leaders will also attend to share their support for the rail initiative.

Among the attendees will be Senator Dave Syverson, Representative Jim Sacia, Chairman Scott Christiansen, Freeport Mayor Gaulrapp, Belvidere Mayor Brereton, Stephenson County Board Chair John Blum, Rockford Mayor Larry Morrissey, Rockford Chamber CEO Einar Forsman, Galena City Administrator Mark Moran, Rockford Area Realtors Representative Conor Brown, and many others.

Interviews and photo opportunities with elected officials, coalition partners and rail supporters will be available at the event.
